Theresa Potter Cripps (October 5, 1852 – May 22, 1893) was one of the nine Potter sisters (Lawrencina, Catherine, Georgina, Blanche, Mary, Margaret, Beatrice, Rosalind).

Born Theresa Potter on October 5, 1852, in Hempstead, Gloucestershire, she was one of the daughters of the wealthy businessman and Radical MP Richard Potter.

In October 1881, she married Charles Arthur Cripps (later the 1st Baron Parmoor), a prominent barrister, politician, and peer.

Together, Charles and Theresa had several children, most notably Sir Stafford Cripps, who would grow up to become a prominent statesman and serve as Chancellor of the Exchequer under Prime Minister Clement Attlee. Her other children included Alfred, Frederick, Leonard, and Ruth.

Theresa died in 1893 at the age of 40, and was buried in Frieth, Gloucestershire. Following her death, her husband later remarried Marian Ellis in 1919.

Theresa was part of the remarkable nine Potter sisters, a family network that has been widely studied in 20th-century gender and social history. Alongside high-profile siblings such as social reformer and economist Beatrice Webb (co-founder of the London School of Economics) and suffragist/author Catherine Courtney, the sisters operated within intellectual and progressive circles that actively interrogated Victorian norms.

Scholarship—such as Barbara Caine’s biographical study Destined to be Wives: The Sisters of Beatrice Webb—highlights how the Potter sisters collectively navigated and challenged strict Victorian gender boundaries. Their lives, correspondence, and domestic choices reflected broader late-19th-century shifts regarding female education, professional autonomy, non-traditional domestic arrangements, and the deep emotional intensity found within same-sex friendships among women of that era.
